A House Oversight and Government Reform Committee panel will hear from Obama administration officials about vehicle mileage and emissions standards that have come under attack from Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).
President Obama unveiled an agreement in July for joint EPA-Transportation Department vehicle mileage and carbon emissions standards for model years 2017-2025 that ultimately reach 54.5 miles-per-gallon.
But Issa has slammed what he calls secret negotiations that resulted in the deal between the White House and major automakers, and fears increased consumer costs and lost jobs.
He wrote letters to EPA and DOT two weeks ago seeking a slew of documents.
Wednesday’s hearing in the regulatory affairs subcommittee will include testimony from the head of DOT’s National Transportation Safety Administration, EPA’s top transportation air quality official, and the head of EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation.
The hearing is titled “Running on Empty: How the Obama Administration's Green Energy Gamble Will Impact Small Business & Consumers."
