Saturday Night Live spoofs Chrysler Super Bowl ad

By Keith Laing - 02/13/12 06:40 PM ET

NBC's Saturday Night Live show offered a spoof of the controversial Chrysler Super Bowl "It's Halftime, America" commercial over the weekend, featuring a faux Clint Eastwood declaring "the game is over, America.

"It ended 2 hours ago," the Eastwood character says in the commercial. "While you were b----ing about my commercial, we lost to Mexico by 30 points."

In the original commercial, which ignited a firestorm as some conservatives argued it was an endorsement of President Obama, Eastwood says “it’s halftime, America, and our second half is about to begin."

Eastwood and Chrysler have said that the ad, which touted the recovery of U.S. auto companies after the bailouts of 2008 and 2009, was not an endorsement of any political candidate, despite its similarities to the president’s appeals for reelection.

Obama declared in his his State of the Union declaration that “the American auto industry is back.”
