Donald Trump triples down on disputed Jeeps-to-China claim
Real estate mogul Donald Trump is tripling down on his claim that Chrysler is moving production of its Jeep brand to China now that the election is over.
In the closing days of the contentious presidential election, Chrysler insisted it is not moving jobs building U.S. Jeeps to China. Instead, the company said, it was considering building cars in China for Chinese customers.
Trump suggested Chrysler would announce different plans after the presidential campaign ended, and he tweeted on Wednesday: "[N]ow that the election is over, watch Chrysler ship @Jeep production to China--my prediction."
"Beijing had a bigger celebration than Chicago last night," he wrote just before he mentioned Chrysler. "The Chinese are happier with the election than we are."
A Chrysler official responded to Trump's pre-election Jeep tweets that the hotel magnate was "full of s--t."
