Sen. Sherrod Brown presses for shuttle to be retired in Ohio

Sen. Sherrod Brown continued pushing Tuesday to land the retired Space Shuttle Atlantis at a museum in his home state of Ohio.
 
Dayton NBC-affiliate WDTN reported that Brown pushed, in a meeting with NASA Administrator Major Gen. Charles Bolden, to select the city's National Museum of the United States Air Force over other museums competing to spotlight the space shuttle program, which is ending.
 
"I made the case to Administrator Bolden that Dayton's Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is the right choice to house the Shuttle Atlantis," Brown told the TV station. "Ohio, as the birthplace of aviation and within a day's drive for 60 percent of the American population, would be extraordinarily well-suited to host the shuttle, and I plan to continue pushing for Ohio as the decision process continues."
 
The visitor center at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in Manhattan, The Museum of Flight in Seattle, the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the California Science Center in Los Angeles and the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington have all also expressed interest in landing one of the shuttles. NASA is retiring the Atlantis, Discovery and Endeavor space shuttles after final flights this year.
