A low wage airport worker will attend the State of the Union address as a guest of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), the New York Daily News reports.
Schumer has invited 27-year-old New York resident Shareeka Elliot to attend the Wednesday speech, in which President Obama is expected to attempt to highlight income inequality.
Schumer has pushed for an increase in the minimum wage to $10.10-per-hour.
The New York senator said he was inspired to invite about Elliot in the Daily News.
“When you read Shareeka’s story, she’s exactly the type of person who should get an increase in pay. If you work hard, you should get a wage with some dignity,” he told the paper. “My heart went out to her.”
