Spirit Airlines agrees with Brent Musburger; offers deal to 'stop ogling over girls'
Spirit Airlines is seeking to capitalize on Internet buzz surrounding sports commentator Brent Musburger's comments about the girlfriend of a college football player during the the sport's national championship game.
During Monday's college football national game game, ABC and ESPN commentator Musburger repeatedly called attention to University of Alabama
student Katherine Webb, who is the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron.
"Now when you are a quarterback at Alabama, you see that lovely lady there, she does go to Auburn, but she's also Miss Alabama and that's AJ McCarron's girlfriend. So if you're a youngster in Alabama, start getting out the football and throwing it around with pop," Musburger said during the broadcast of the game.
Spirit Airlines, which has not shied away from previous controversies,
sought to capitalize on the incident, saying in an email to potential
customers "[W]e think his girlfriend is hot too, but … stop ogling over
girls … and score with our low fares."
The Spirit advertisement was reminiscent of previous appeals referencing controversial incidents such as offering "binder full of sales" following Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's comments about reviewing "binders full of women" for political appointments during a debate last fall with President Obama.
Spirit has also famously offered a 9-9-9 sale named after former Republican presidential candidate's Herman Cain's ubiquitous tax plan from the GOP primary that was ultimately won by Romney.
