Congress is debating a measure to continuing funding the government between Oct. 1, which is the beginning of the 2014 fiscal year.
The continuing resolution has been bogged down in a debate over funding for President Obama’s signature health care law. Republicans are attempting to tie a continuation of government funding to eliminating money for the 2010 Affordable Care Act, which is commonly referred to as Obamacare.
The DOT’s contingency plan said that the FAA would not furlough air traffic controllers, but the agency would stop its rulemaking.
The aviation agency would also stop working on its development of a new satellite-based navigation system for airplane known as NextGen. The FAA would go from 46,070 employees currently to 30,556 under the transportation department’s contingency plan.
