The sector with the highest number of gains in transportation employment in July, according to BLS, was transit and ground passenger transportation, which increased by 7,600 jobs. There were 453,800 jobs in transit in August, compared to 446,200 in July.
The highest number of losses in transportation employment came in aviation, which went from 444,300 jobs in July to 442,700 jobs in August.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that the long-distance rail industry lost 800 jobs in August, going from 230,500 in July to 229,700 last month.
