Bus safety panel set
Members of Congress will hear from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and others this week when it takes up the issue of bus safety.
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation panel’s subcommittee on surface transportation, on Monday announced the panelists for the March 30 hearing.
The meeting follows two fatal bus crashes in New York and New Jersey this month that killed 17 people.
Among the witnesses will be Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), NTSB Chairwoman Deborah Hersman, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Administrator Anne Ferro and NHTSA Deputy Administrator Ron Medord, Lautenberg's office said in a statement. Other speakers will include American Bus Association President Peter Pantuso and Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety Consumer Co-Chairwoman Joan Claybrook.
Claybrook is a former NHTSA administrator.
The hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
