Amtrak ending no-show refunds

Amtrak is ending its policy of offering refunds to most passengers who do not show up for its trains, the company announced this week.

Previously, Amtrak passengers were able to apply for refunds for unused tickets or use them for future travel.

However, the company has announced that beginning on March 1, passengers who do not cancel their reservations within 24 hours of their scheduled departure will be counted as "no-shows" and they will lose the value of their tickets.

The company said it will sell "flexible fare" tickets that are refundable.

The changes will apply to its coach class and Acela high-speed train business class reservations.
