TSA to give Amtrak a security award

By Keith Laing - 04/16/12 02:45 PM ET

Amtrak will receive a security award from the Transportation Security Administration, officials with the national passenger rail service announced Monday.

The TSA will recognize Amtrak for its Baseline Assessment for Security Enhancements (BASE) for the Northeast Corridor of its railway network, the agency said.

Amtrak said in a statement announcing the award that the TSA review gave the rail agency "high marks for its establishment of security and emergency awareness programs both internally and externally."

The award will be presented Tuesday at Washington, D.C.'s Union Station by TSA Administrator John Pistole. The TSA chief will be joined by Amtrak Board of Directors Chairman Tom Carper, Amtrak President Joseph Boardman and Amtrak Police Chief John O'Connor.

The presentation will take place in the Starlight Room of Union Station, between gates B and C. It is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
