TSA solicits passengers for 'Pre-Check' program
The Transportation Security Administration is encouraging airline passengers to sign up for its known-traveler program.
On its blog, TSA encouraged passengers flying out of Boston's Logan Airport on American Airlines or Detroit's Metro International Airport on Delta Airlines to sign up for its "Pre-Check" program that is designed to reduce wait times at airport security checkpoints. Passengers who volunteer information for the program would not have to be checked exactly same way as
other passengers.
The TSA said this week the pilots of the program at the airports in Boston and Detroit have gotten off to a good start.
"We’ve been getting a lot of interest and rave reviews since rolling out TSA Pre✓™ earlier this month and travelers have been asking how they can sign up," the agency wrote on its blog. "The good news is that you may already be eligible and just not know it. This summer, after partnering with American and Delta airlines, and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to identify a limited group of potential participants to test the expedited screening concept, each airline and CBP sent communications out to the participant pool telling them how to opt into the TSA Pre✓™ pilot.
The agency said participation would not be limited to passengers who were initially emailed.
"If you didn’t get the initial communication or accidentally tossed it, there is still a way to participate in TSA Pre✓™," the blog said. "If you are a United States citizen and are currently a member of CBP’s eligible Trusted Traveler programs (Global Entry, SENTRI, NEXUS), you are automatically qualified to participate in the TSA Pre✓™ pilot as long as you are flying on a participating airline at a participating airport."
