TSA: Air passenger tried to disguise knife as a credit card
The Transportation Security Administration said Wednesday that a passenger was caught trying to smuggle a knife that was designed to look like a credit card through airport security.
The TSA said the incident happened Tuesday morning at Liberty International Airport in Newark, N.J. The agency said the knife was discovered by a TSA employee on one of the agency's controversial X-ray machines, which some critics have said emit enough radiation to possibly cause cancer.
TSA has defended the X-ray machines are being safe, and Wednesday, the agency said it helped them catch a concealed weapon.
"Thanks to their training, effective technology, and on-the-job focus, the TSA Officers were able to detect this item without any impact to airport operations," the TSA statement continued.
