Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chairwoman Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) is praising President Obama’s choice of Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx (D) to be the next U.S. Transportation Secretary.
Fudge had criticized Obama for lacking diversity in his early Cabinet choices, but she said Foxx, who is African-American, would make a good DOT Secretary.
“Through his work as mayor and as a city councilman in Charlotte, Anthony addressed the needs of an area that experienced tremendous growth within the past decade,” Fudge said in a statement released by the CBC. “Anthony will surely be an asset to the president’s cabinet and to this nation and I look forward to working with him to ensure the needs of our country’s transportation system are adequately met.”

President Obama called outgoing Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood "maybe the best secretary of transportation" in U.S. history on Monday.
Obama was speaking at his announcement of Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx to replace LaHood atop the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Before he formally introduced Foxx, Obama heaped praise on LaHood.
"Ray LaHood has said that being the secretary of transportation is the best job he ever had in public service," Obama said at the opening of his remarks on Monday. "And that’s fitting because Ray may be the best secretary of transportation that the nation’s ever had."

Outgoing Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Monday that new fuel economy standards he helped usher in with President Obama are “a big deal” that will outlast both of them.
“That will be part of President Obama’s legacy. What a legacy — cleaning up the air in America, getting cleaner burning cars,” LaHood said at a news conference in which Obama tapped Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx to lead the Transportation Department (DOT).
The updated Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE, standards require cars to get 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. They were finalized last August.

Federal regulators are coming under increasing pressure to reject a change to milk labels that is being sought by the dairy industry.
The public advocacy group SumOfUs.Org has taken out large ads to appear on buses in the Washington, D.C., region protesting a request to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take “low-calorie” labels off the front of flavored milk sweetened with artificial sugars.
"Hey, FDA, if the dairy industry gets its way, milk marketed to our kids will become more of an artificially-sweetened junk food. We don't want that!" the signs read.

President Obama has not been able to sign the measure passed by Congress last week to end air traffic controller furloughs because of a typo in the bill, according to a report.
ABC News is reporting that a word in the legislation is missing an 's,' delaying Obama's signature on the bill until Tuesday.
Congress hurriedly passed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) bill last week before they left Washington for a weeklong recess as frequent airline passengers complained about delays the agency attributed to the sequester.
