Watchdog buys ads on DC buses to argue against milk industry

Federal regulators are coming under increasing pressure to reject a change to milk labels that is being sought by the dairy industry.

The public advocacy group SumOfUs.Org has taken out large ads to appear on buses in the Washington, D.C., region protesting a request to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take “low-calorie” labels off the front of flavored milk sweetened with artificial sugars.

"Hey, FDA, if the dairy industry gets its way, milk marketed to our kids will become more of an artificially-sweetened junk food. We don't want that!" the signs read.

Report: Obama signature on FAA bill held up by spelling error

President Obama has not been able to sign the measure passed by Congress last week to end air traffic controller furloughs because of a typo in the bill, according to a report.

ABC News is reporting that a word in the legislation is missing an 's,' delaying Obama's signature on the bill until Tuesday.

Congress hurriedly passed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) bill last week before they left Washington for a weeklong recess as frequent airline passengers complained about delays the agency attributed to the sequester.

Ford lobbying on Keystone pipeline

Ford Motor Co. now includes the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline among the topics in the company’s lobbying portfolio.

The auto giant’s first quarter lobbying report lists the proposed pipeline that would bring oil from Alberta’s oil sands projects across the border en route to Gulf Coast refineries.

The filing specifically lists the “Northern Route Approval Act,” which is pending, GOP-led House legislation that would authorize construction of TransCanada Corp.’s pipeline.
