Boeing: 'Dreamliner' demand rising as plane nears return to service

Airplane manufacturer Boeing says demand for its 787 "Dreamliner" airplane is growing as aviation regulators move closer to lifting their order to ground the planes.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other international aviation organizations have prohibited airlines from flying the 787 since January after a string of incidents in which the aircraft's lithium-ion batteries caused one fire and several close calls.

The agency approved Boeing's modifications to the 787 battery system last month, clearing the way for the airplane's eventual return to commercial flight service.

Boeing said Thursday that it was it was increasing the number of 787s it builds from five per month to seven.
