Poll: GOP voters would rather buy a car from Santorum than Romney

A new poll shows voters in states voting in Republican presidential primaries on Tuesday would rather buy a used car from former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum than former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

In something of a variation of the traditional "which candidate would rather have a beer with" poll question that is often seen a proxy for likeability, the website Craigslist commissioned a poll to see which GOP candidate voters would feel comfortable purchasing a used car from.

Used car salesman have not traditionally been seen as trustworthy figures, but the poll, conducted by IBOPE Zogby among 660 adults, found 60 percent of Republicans said they would buy a used vehicle from Santorum. By comparison, 46 percent said they would feel comfortable purchasing a previously-owned car from Romney.

Obama dismisses GOP claims that he wants higher gas prices

President Obama insisted Tuesday that his administration is reviewing all options to protect consumers from soaring gas prices, aggressively pushing back on GOP claims that the White House wants higher prices at the pump.

“We’re going to do everything we can to make sure that consumers aren’t hurt by [gas prices],” Obama said Tuesday during his first White House press conference since November, adding that his administration is reviewing both short-term options to tackle gas prices and longer-term options to wean the country off its dependence on oil.

The press conference comes as Republicans are seeking to pin the blame for high gas prices on President Obama, an effort the White House has called a political ploy.
