Menendez supports U.S. bid for World Cup

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) is lobbying FIFA, the global governing body for soccer, to allow the U.S. to host the World Cup eight or 12 years from now. The U.S. last hosted the tournament in 1994, utilizing nine major sports venues across the country to accommodate record-breaking crowds.

Menendez tweeted Thursday:

Signing a letter to encourage the president of FIFA to bring #worldcup to USA in 2018 or 2022, USA!

The 2014 World Cup will take place in Brazil. FIFA will announce its decision regarding 2018 on December 2.
