Rob Portman, the Republican running for the seat soon to be vacated by Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio), tweeted Monday night that he had been injured while biking with his son.

He said:

just got out of x-ray, fractured my collarbone mtn biking w my son Will. will be in a sling for a couple weeks. great ride until i fell!

He followed up Tuesday morning:

Surgery went well this morning. Collarbone is now titanium-reinforced and stronger than ever. Thanks for all the prayers & well wishes.

Portman served as U.S. Trade Representative and Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) under President George W. Bush.

The latest poll — a Rasmussen report from June 29 — had Portman leading Democrat Lee Fisher by four points. Roughly a month earlier, the two had been head to head.
