On Tuesday morning, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) noted this week’s two sad losses for the New York Yankees: team owner George Steinbrenner, on Tuesday morning, and the legendary voice of Yankee Stadium Bob Sheppard, on Sunday morning.

Lieberman tweeted:

Sad week for the #Yankees - mourning the loss of The Boss and Bob Sheppard

The Connecticut senator has been noted as a die-hard Yankee fan. In 2004, while campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination, he commented to reporters on the previous year’s World Series in which the Yankees were defeated by the Florida Marlins. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), his primary opponent at the time, had released a statement congratulating the Marlins for their win.

“You know, I always say that I’m going to say what I believe is right no matter whether it’s politically popular in every crowd or not,” Lieberman told reporters. “So of course, I was rooting for the Yankees.”
