Maryland congresswoman tweets Democratic 'sit-in'
A group of Democratic House members visited the Senate floor Wednesday afternoon to stage what Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) called a "sit-in" against GOP stonewalling on the small-business bill.
Edward, along with Reps. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.), Danny Davis (D-Ill.), Gwen Moore (D-Wis.), and Carolyn Kirkpatrick (D-Mich.), sat briefly on the Senate floor in an area designated for staff members before exiting.
Edwards had tweeted earlier in the afternoon:
House colleagues and I will hold a sit-in at the Senate Chamber to highlight Senate R's inaction on critical jobs bills.
Lawmakers worked Wednesday to compromise on which Republican amendments would be attached to the bill, a move that could allow for a vote by the end of the day.
The measure was approved by the House on June 17.
