Texas congressman celebrates Rangers' postseason series win

In case it wasn't clear before, Rep. Joe Barton (R) is a big Rangers fan.

The Texas congressman expressed his enthusiasm for the team on Twitter Wednesday following its 5-1 win against the Tampa Bay Rays.

"Congrats #TexasRangers  (stadium in my dist)Won 1st postseason series EVER!" he said. "Hello ALCS- #Yankees Friday nite in #Arlington.Lets go Rangers!!"

Here, the Washington Post provides context ahead of the ALCS.

When Texas made the playoffs three times in the 1990s — in 1996, 1998 and 1999, the only three times, prior to this year, it had made the playoffs — the Rangers ran into the Yankees each year. They won the second game of the series in 1996, and they did not win another game. Before this year, the entirety of the Rangers' playoff history was a 1-9 record against the Yankees ...

American League Championship Series begins Friday. This season, the Rangers and Yankees split their season series, 4-4, with the Yankees outscoring the Rangers, 39-33. The Yankees swept the Rangers in Yankee Stadium back in April, and in the final five games of the season series — all played at the Ballpark in Arlington — the Rangers took four of five.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) also tweeted following Tuesday night's game.

"Way to go Rangers!! What should we wager Giuliani for the series??!!" he said
