Tweets celebrate miners' rescue

Officials and heads of state took to Twitter this week to mark the rescue of 33 Chilean miners trapped for nearly two months underground.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) noted the Houston contractor behind the "Plan B" drill effort attended his alma mater.

He said:

Just talked with Texan Greg Hall who managed the drill project to save the Chilean miners. A proud '82 grad of TAMU [Texas A&M] ...whoop!!

Rep. Connie Mack (R-Fla.) said:

What an incredible story. The Chilean miners' courage and strength during this ordeal is truly inspiring.

Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.) said, linking to an Associated Press article:

A #Colorado hero helps rescue trapped miners in #Chile.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said:

All 33 miners have been saved in Chili. I admire the miners' strong will and the rescuers' courage and professionalism. Congratulations!

Queen Rania of Jordan said:

Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Tun Razak said:

The successful rescue of the Chilean miners n their will to survive show what can be achieved when we are united

Costa Rican president Laura Chinchilla, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, Mexican president Felipe Calderón, and Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper also tweeted their greetings.

Chilean president Sebastian Piñera updated his Twitter feed throughout the crisis.
