An outgoing member of the House Republican leadership is enthusiastic about a potential presidential run by one of his colleagues.
Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (Mich.), the chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, applauded a blog post deeming Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) the best choice for the GOP's presidential nominee in 2012.
"Great article about the courageous Conservative (& my colleague) @RepMikePence by @RedState's @ewerickson," McCotter posted on his Twitter handle.
CNN contributor and RedState editor-in-chief Erick Erickson deemed Pence the best choice since 2012 is a "wildcard year."
"In a wildcard year like 2012, I think the nominee will not by [sic] the typical 'heir-apparent' as the GOP usually chooses," he wrote. "I think it can we [sic] a wildcard and I think of all the wild cards out there right now among existing politicos, Pence makes the most sense."
Pence has not yet said whether he will run for president, but he stepped down from his post as House GOP conference chairman after the midterm elections, sparking further speculation he might seek higher office.
