The second-ranking member of the Senate joined Twitter on Monday and posted about his meeting with a group of bipartisan budget negotiators.

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is now tweeting under the name @SenatorDurbin. As of Tuesday afternoon, he has 51 followers.

His second tweet mentioned that he had dinner with the so-called "Gang of Six" senators looking to hammer out a compromise budget proposal:

Had dinner with the bipartisan Gang of Six last night. We’re working hard to find a solution to our deficit problems #fiscalcommission

Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), the leaders of the group, formally rolled out their campaign on Monday to develop a comprehensive budget plan that tackles growing entitlement spending and the national debt.

Durbin is a member of the "gang." He also served on President Obama's fiscal commission, which put forth a proposal late last year that Congress has not taken up.
