Himes’s Styrofoam cup runs over with sarcasm
In his typical fashion, Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) tried to find the humor in the recent return of Styrofoam to House cafeterias.
Himes tweaked the Republicans’ priorities with a tweet Thursday:
Hey! Turns out you can now get a shot of crude oil in your styrofoam- clad coffee in cafeteria! Yeah, ok, that's not really true.
Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Administration Committee, brought Styrofoam back into use by cafeterias in the House office buildings in February, ending a three-year compost program started by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who earlier tweeted her own opinions about the change.
House Democrats have protested the return in a letter to the Republican leadership that warned of “significant health and environmental risks associated with Styrofoam.”
