Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's (R-Ga.) Twitter isn't what it used to be.

Actually, some of what it used to be isn't there anymore. Vanity Fair magazine notes the tweets of Newt Gingrich prior to July 22, 2010, have disappeared.

According to Twitter, Gingrich, who is mulling a run for president in 2012, is an avid Twitter user with more than 2,300 tweets. His current feed contains fewer.

Every once in a while a politician or prominent Twitter user will delete a tweet because of criticism or controversy, but some of the missing Gingrich tweets appear to be non-controversial.

These missing tweets, according to Wonkette, include:

“I like Reese’s peanut butter cups because Reese’s is also from Hershey. However Callista got me a Reese’s peanut butter egg. It is good too.”

“Forcefully oulining [sic] the rules of civilization for dealing with pirates.”

Twitter does not remove tweets from the pages of its users.

Gingrich has yet to comment on the missing tweets.
