Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) took to Twitter to express his delight that Indiana’s Butler University will play for a national college basketball championship.
“Congrats @butleru @BUCoachStevens @ButlerMBB and @ButlerBlue2! A great moment yet again for Indiana!,” Lugar tweeted Saturday night after the Bulldogs beat Virginia Commonwealth University in the semifinal.
The Bulldogs will be underdogs when they play the University of Connecticut in Monday night’s final.
Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) was even more excited in his victory tweet. “How about them Dawgs! Butler University is headed back to the NCAA Championship Game! This time they are bringing the banner home to Hinkle!,” he tweeted.
But Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) tweeted that VCU have nothing to be ashamed of. “Dang. Congratulations to RamNation on quite a tourney run. VCU did us proud,” Warner tweeted after the loss.
Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.) also tweeted his condolences to the VCU team. "Still proud of our @VCU Rams! Congrats to Butler and @RepAndreCarson and @RepDanBurton on winning that bet," he wrote.
There was no word from @GOPLeader, Rep. Eric Cantor's (R-Va.) Twitter account, but his press office tweeted pictures of the Majority Leader with other politicians at the game.
