Republicans push back on Democrats invoking Reagan on debt ceiling
Republicans are highlighting a video pushing back on the notion that President Obama is following in the footsteps of former President Reagan in calling for an increase in the debt ceiling.
On Friday, a number of GOP legislators tweeted out a video released by the House Republican conference arguing against the idea that Obama has been following in the footsteps of the Great Communicator, a favorite Republican icon, for advocating raising the debt ceiling.
Over the last two weeks or so, Democrats have been noting that Reagan pushed to raise the debt ceiling 17 times during his presidency.
More recently, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee asked House Republicans in 50 districts if they agreed with Reagan on increasing the debt ceiling.
"I'm quite familiar w/ RT & he's no RR MT @gopconference D's comparing @BarackObama to Reagan. Does it stack up? VID: http://bit.ly/p1dOhU," Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) tweeted on Friday.
"President Obama? He's no Reagan," the video says at one point.
