Connecticut Democrat tweaks Texas over concealed-carry bill

“Don’t Mess with Texas” is a trademark Texas slogan. The Lone Star State has some of the most liberal weapons laws in the country. Connecticut approved same-sex marriage in 2008.

The House on Wednesday considered a Republican bill that would require states to recognize one anothers concealed weapons permits. The legislation, introduced by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla), has been hotly opposed by Democrats on the floor, many of whom took to Twitter on Wednesday.

“Priority should be getting people back to work, rather than making it easier to carry loaded concealed guns across state lines,” tweeted Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.).

Republicans say the bill would streamline reciprocity laws between states. Illinois is currently the only state without a concealed-carry statute. Washington, D.C., also does not allow ordinary citizens to carry concealed weapons.
