RNC launches opposition research Tumblr account
The Republican National Committee launched a page on the social blogging site Tumblr Thursday to serve as a repository for the opposition research the party hopes to circulate while taking on President Obama in the 2012 election.
The RNC said the account "will showcase the latest research, facts, figures, pictures and YouTube videos about Barack Obama’s three years of failed economic policies and broken promises that have taken our country in the wrong direction."
"Through this platform, voters across the country will be able to follow the RNC as it examines the Obama record," the committee said in a statement.
President Obama's reelection campaign launched its own Tumblr site in October, which features a mix of political posts and more offbeat pictures of campaign staffers on the trail.
The president's campaign staff, who used social networking to raise record amounts of money and propel voter turnout in 2008, also signed up for Instagram, a photo-sharing application that enables iPhone users to add faux-vintage filters to images, earlier this week. The platform has become increasingly popular among amateur photographers with the popular smartphone.
