Michelle Obama gets her own Twitter account
The first lady finally has her own Twitter account.
Michelle Obama, one of the few prominent members of the Obama administration to go tweet-less, set up a Twitter account for the first time on Thursday.
The account "will be managed by campaign staff, with any tweets from the first lady herself signed '-mo,' " according to a tweet.
The first lady was slow to adopt Twitter, sending one or two tweets through other accounts. The White House promoted a video in October of Obama cautiously typing out a message in support of Joining Forces, a White House initiative that supports service members and their families.
She must have caught the microblogging bug. The account picked up 7,472 followers on Thursday after only two tweets, neither from Obama.
Obama signed on later in the morning with her own first tweet on the account: "Hi, everyone, and thanks for the warm welcome. Look forward to staying in touch with you here. -mo"
By that point, Obama had achieved 72,987 followers.
