Axelrod: Huntsman endorsing Romney because he's got 2016 'in mind'
Jon Huntsman dropped out of the Republican presidential race and endorsed Mitt Romney because he's got 2016 "in mind," according to senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod.
"With '16 in mind, Huntsman backs the man he's called 'a perfectly lubricated weather vane,' " who has "been on three sides of every major issue," Axelrod tweeted on Monday.
Huntsman had regularly criticized the former Massachusetts governor throughout his campaign, a fact Democrats quickly seized on. Shortly after the news broke, the Democratic National Committee sent out an email highlighting criticisms Huntsman made of Romney.
In one instance, Huntsman said Romney had switched positions so much that his policy stances are similar to a "perfectly lubricated weather vane."
"While the Huntsman campaign tries to rewrite history, let us remind you of some of Jon Huntsman's greatest hits against Mitt Romney," the email read.
