Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) tweeted from the prison in Hanoi, Vietnam, that he visited Friday during a tour of the country, and where he was held more than 40 years ago.
“Also visited Truc Bach Lake in Hanoi — where I landed after being shot down in 1967 — & the monument to my capture,” McCain tweeted Friday.
McCain was imprisoned and tortured at the prison when he served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
McCain is visiting the country as part of an American delegation. The Arizona senator also tweeted that the delegation met with the country’s president, Truong Tan Sang.
