A Florida man has been charged with using social media to make threats to assassinate President Obama, according to reports late Tuesday.
Joaquin Amador Serrapio Jr., 20, allegedly posted threats on his Facebook and Twitter accounts last week that referenced Obama’s Thursday speech at the University of Miami.
Serrapio was arrested last Thursday and has been released on bail, according to The Associated Press.
On Thursday, he allegedly followed up with another post that read: “If anyones going to UM to see obama today, get ur phones out and record. Cause at any moment im gonna put a bullet through his head and u don’t wanna miss that! Youtube!”
Secret Service agents based in Miami went to Serrapio’s home on Thursday, the day of Obama’s visit to Miami, where Serrapio and his mother consented to their search of the house.
Pellet guns were found in the home he shares with his family, along with evidence that Serrapio sent the social media messages, according to the criminal complaint filed by Secret Service in Miami and released on Tuesday. The Secret Service also reported in the document that Serrapio admitted to posting the threatening status updates.
