Crossroads apologizes for tweet suggesting Commerce secretary driving drunk
Conservative super-PAC American Crossroads apologized Monday after deleting a tweet that suggested Commerce Secretary John Bryson was driving drunk over the weekend.
A tweet from the group's official Twitter account apologized for failing "miserably" to make a joke after reports broke early Monday morning that Bryson was under police investigation for hitting two cars — one twice — in Los Angeles before being found unconscious in his own.
According to the Commerce Department, Bryson had a seizure.
"Earlier Bryson tweet with hashtag #skills attempted levity (before facts known) and failed miserably. We took it down and regret the tweet," Crossroads tweeted about two hours after the first tweet.
The Karl Rove-backed group has demonstrated huge fundraising power and is expected to be one of a handful of outside spending groups with substantial influence over the November elections.
