Controversial evolutionary biologist and author Richard Dawkins, a leading anti-religion activist, ripped Mitt Romney and his Mormon religion over Twitter on Wednesday.
“Romney confuses Sikh with Sheikh,” Dawkins tweeted.
“Also confuses ‘Prophet’ with ‘convicted conman using magic hat to read gold plates,’ ” Dawkins continued, in reference to Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement and Romney’s Mormon religion.
Dawkins, along with Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett and, before he died in 2011, Christopher Hitchens, is one of the foremost proponents of atheism and a staunch opponent of all religions.
His books include The Selfish Gene, which is often credited for having given rise to the term “meme,” The Blind Watchmaker, The God Delusion, and The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution.
