Republican National Convention releases mobile app
The Republican National Convention released a mobile application on Friday designed for both convention attendees and long-distance participants.
Convention events will be live-streamed through the app, according to a press release from convention organizers, and embedded into the app is a social “conversation room,” a digital green room where users will be able to connect with convention speakers through Google Hangouts, live-tweets and Facebook photos.
The theme of this year’s nominating convention is “Convention without walls,” and the mobile application builds on organizers’ commitment to utilizing all digital platforms.
Convention updates are already available on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google Plus, Pinterest, Instagram, Foursquare, and the official website.
"Four years ago, at the last convention, iPhones and other smart phones were just making their debut and mobile apps were in their infancy,” Tampa Bay Host Committee President Ken Jones said in a statement. “Now, these devices are everywhere and we have the fantastic opportunity to provide our guests and the public who are interested in the convention with a mobile application that is cutting-edge, easy-to-use and fun. More importantly, it provides users the chance to learn about the Tampa Bay region and all it has to offer."
Upcoming schedule updates will also be released through the app, according to the release, which includes a master calendar for convention events.
The mobile application, "Tampa 2012," is available on Apple and Android platforms and can be downloaded here. It was developed with the help of AT&T, the official wireless provider for both conventions.
The Democrats released a mobile application last week, despite the fact that the Democratic National Convention will take place a week after the Republican one.
