Ann Romney promoted routine health exams on Tuesday, writing on her Facebook page that she is still cancer-free.

"Routine check-ups are the key to early detection," she wrote. "I had my check-up yesterday, and am celebrating three years of being cancer-free."

Romney was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in January 2009. She went through surgery and radiation but not chemotherapy, because of the “stage zero” diagnosis. Romney, who has a family history with cancer, has credited the “wonderful” breast cancer research and high level of awareness in the United States.

She said in May that she holds her breath for her annual screening every year.
