Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) painted a colorful image on Thursday of what she thinks Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) is doing to his party.
The Democratic leader thinks the scandal over the House Republican discussing “legitimate rape” last weekend will be the “doggie doo” the Republican party cannot get off its shoe.

“But this is not about abortion; let’s put that aside,” Pelosi told the Post. “Abortion is something you can agree to disagree on, but this shows a disrespect of women that’s beyond that — and even beyond politics, to something that’s deep-seated, sociological, cultural and psychological. Todd Akin’s statement and the obliviousness with which he made it find a very comfortable home with House Republicans, who are rushing to get rid of him because of what he says about them.”
Akin has said he misspoke and meant to discuss “forcible rape.” Despite pressure from his party to drop out of the Missouri Senate race, Akin maintains he is staying in. He has used his campaign Twitter feed to fundraise, urging his followers to help him fight “the elite liberal media.”
His campaign set a fundraising goal of $100,000 and said it reached the amount by Thursday night.
