Romney's plane made news Wednesday too when reports emerged that a secret service agent accidentally left her loaded handgun in the bathroom of the aircraft as the candidate flew to Indianapolis.

The weapon was discovered by a CBS producer who informed the Secret Service about the forgotten firearm, which was then retrieved by agents.

According to The New York Times, the agent was responsible was pulled off of Romney's detail to discuss the incident with her supervisors. Romney returned to Tampa on Wednesday night for the remainder of the convention.

“We are aware of the incident,” said Ed Donovan, a spokesman for the Secret Service, in a statement obtained by multiple media outlets. “We take the care and custody of our equipment, especially firearms, very seriously. This matter will be dealt with internally and in an appropriate manner.”
