Sen. Murkowski exchanges tweets with 'The Voice' competitor

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) might be watching "The Voice" this season. 

Alaska native and Murkowski constituent JR Aquino auditioned for NBC's singing competition, appearing in a episode that aired Tuesday evening. He was selected to continue in the competition and chose singer Cee Lo Green as his coach. Murkowski tweeted about Aquino's audition late on Tuesday evening, with Aquino quickly responding that he was "honored by this tweet."

According to the Alaska Dispatch, Aquino also was a contestant on "The Voice" competitor "American Idol" in 2005. In a segment prior to his audition on "The Voice," Aquino explained that there is a very small music scene in Anchorage, Alaska, and he turned to YouTube to be heard. He became a YouTube sensation, with his videos racking up over 50 million views.
