Romney wants 8M to 'like' him

Mitt Romney's campaign is looking for a few more friends. 

The campaign posted a photo of Romney holding a sign for the Republican presidential ticket over the weekend on Facebook, adding a hand-written note asking supporters to help them get to 8 million "likes." 

On Monday, Romney's Facebook page is a few thousand shy of 8 million, with 7,794,553 fans.

According to Facebook, 1.7 million people are "talking about" Romney on Facebook — a metric that does not measure whether users are saying good or bad things — compared to about 1.4 million talking about President Obama. Typically, campaigns are more concerned about the engagement factor than their number of followers, because the ability to share content on social networks can exponentially increase who sees their message.

Romney is still well behind Obama in Facebook likes. Obama has more than 29 million Facebook fans.

Facebook also provides the details that the city where Romney has the most Facebook fans is Houston, Texas, while Obama's is Miami, Fla. Romney is most popular with the 45-54 age group on Facebook, while Obama's most popular age group is 18-24 years old.
