Pelosi, Hoyer use Twitter to slam GOP for taking break
House Republicans on Tuesday would not allow Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other House Democrats to speak on the floor, so many of those lawmakers took to Twitter instead.
The House is holding pro forma sessions during the break in order to avoid calling a recess, but many members of Congress are back in their home districts campaigning this month.
Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) both requested permission to speak during Tuesday’s brief pro forma session but were refused.
"They refuse to get important work done,” Pelosi tweeted of the Republicans.
Hoyer was even more blunt in his tweet, accusing the GOP of failing their constituents:
Called on GOP to return to work during session, but they walked out on Americans. #DoNothingGOP 1.usa.gov/R9QkwJ twitter.com/WhipHoyer/stat…

Democratic Reps. Judy Chu (Calif.), Raul Grijalva (Ariz.) and Barbara Lee (Calif.) also joined Pelosi and Hoyer in promoting the hashtag.
