Sen. McCain: What about deep-fried Twinkies?

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) doesn’t know if presidential campaigns will be the same without deep-fried Twinkies on a stick.

Hostess, the company best known for making Twinkies and Wonder Bread, announced Friday it is closing permanently.

In a statement, the company blamed the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM) for a nationwide strike that had “crippled the company’s ability to produce and deliver products at multiple facilities.”

The Iowa State Fair is a tradition for presidential campaigns, and known for deep-frying everything from Twinkies to butter.

Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) had a more serious take on the announcement.
