SC governor responds to #SenatorColbert campaign
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) has received "thousands of tweets" already on Friday from fans of comedian Stephen Colbert urging her to consider him as resigning Sen. Jim DeMint's (R-S.C.) replacement.
But she warned that Colbert has already made a "big mistake" that might affect her consideration.
"Stephen, thank you for your interest in South Carolina's U.S. Senate seat," she tweeted Friday, continuing on her Facebook page:
"But you forget one thing, my friend. You didn't know our state drink. Big, big mistake."
Colbert failed the trivia question when he hosted Haley on his show earlier this year. The answer is milk.
Colbert launched the #senatorcolbert hashtag campaign on his show Thursday night, after joking speculation that he should be considered to finish DeMint's Senate term. DeMint is retiring to run the Heritage Foundation, and Haley will appoint his replacement.
