Retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) on Wednesday reflected on “tweeting” in his farewell speech to the Senate.
“When I started here in the Senate, a BlackBerry was a fruit, and tweeting was something only birds did,” he said in his final speech on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday. He leaves the Senate in January after 24 years.
“None of these extraordinary developments happened by accident. In fact, to a significant degree I would say they were made possible by the principled leadership of the United States,” he said.
He also thanked his wife, family, colleagues, campaign workers and volunteers, and specifically included the Capitol Police and maintenance staff.
