McCaskill mocks Scalia's 'weird hat' on Twitter
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) used her perch on the inaugural platform Monday to dish some sartorial criticism of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who set off a social media firestorm with his choice of headwear.
Scalia appeared to be wearing a Tudor bonnet, the traditional academic headwear for those who have a professional doctoral degree. The hats, typically made of velvet or cloth, are customarily a soft round cap with a cord that circles the puggaree of the hat. They are most usually worn during graduation ceremonies.
Scalia's cap did not appear to have a cord, but otherwise resembled the Tudor bonnet. Whatever the style, the hat was "weird" enough to earn liveblogging from Missouri's senior senator.
Four years ago today I began tweeting. One of my first tweets was a comment on Scalia's weird hat. Will he wear it again? Stay tuned.

McCaskill also praised Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) on her choice of headware, saying her colleague was "seriously cool."
She is so seriously cool. And she's gonna give Scalia's hat a run for its money. twitter.com/clairecmc/stat…
