Kerry to take over State Department's Twitter feed

Secretary of State John Kerry will take over the department's Twitter feed, the agency announced Monday.

The State Department has increasingly used Twitter and social media outlets over the past year, hosting a series of town halls and virtual press conferences through the network.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was not an active presence on social media, although the State Department frequently used the platform to solicit questions and feedback. Late last month, Clinton hosted an 80-minute global Twitter town hall at the Newseum, where she fielded questions from users across six continents.

Kerry was an active Twitter presence during his time as a senator. The last post to his official account was just over a week ago, when a staffer posted a picture of Kerry testifying at his confirmation hearing.
