Pa. House candidate enters the fray on Twitter

A former health policy adivser to President Barack Obama's campaign officially announced his House candidacy on Twitter Tuesday morning. Manan Trivedi is running for a suburban Philadelphia open seat in 2010 that Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-Pa.) now holds.

Gerlach is running for governor next year.

Trivedi, who served as a military doctor in Iraq, tweeted:

My first tweet and it's official. I am running for Congress in the PA-06: http://trivediforcongress.com/

The native Pennsylvanian is considered somewhat of an insurgent candidate on the Democratic side, taking on former Philadelphia Inquirer editorial board member Doug Pike (D-Pa.)

Pike, who announced in April, has received endorsements from party leaders and has largely self-funded his campaign.

Cook Political Report rates the race as a toss-up, but rates the sixth district as leaning Democratic overall.

Republicans that have already entered the race are Chester County Recorder Ryan Costello and state Rep. Curt Schroder.
